Why American Names?
STORE is an American research project building democratic AI governance. The milestone names honor the constitutional thinkers who discovered the math we use.
Hamilton figured out in 1787 that no faction should control more than 1/3 of power. Lamport proved in 1982 that distributed systems need 2/3 consensus. Same math. 195 years apart. Neither knew about the other.
We're the first research team to identify this connection and put it into computing and AI. The heritage is the point.

Why This Matters Now
Every major AI lab is grappling with governance. OpenAI's board drama. Anthropic's constitutional AI. Google's AI principles. They're all trying to solve the same problem - how do humans maintain control over AI systems - and they're all using traditional corporate governance. Boards, policies, oversight committees.
